The
"Serra de Monchique" is a unique forested mountain range
with timeless villages and hamlets like serene Caldas de Monchique,
used as a Spa for more than 2000 years. On clear days Foia, at 900
meters altitude the highest peak in the Algarv, offers stunning panoramic
views. The spicy grilled chicken "piri-piri" is a must in
this area.
On its foothills lays the historical town of Silves with it's a well-preserved
and impressive Moorish castle and Roman bridge, surrounded by citrus
orchards where Portugal's finest oranges and lemons are grown. The
Silves Cathedral dates back to the 12th Century. |
