Lagos was one of the shipyards for the caravels that made the famous voyages during the Portuguese "Age of Discoveries" in the 14th and 15th centuries.A fortified historic wall surrounds the old town perimeter which offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cultural attractions and nightlife entertainment. Its palm-tree lined promenade near the river is worth a visit. From here you can make a boat trip to visit the magical rocky coastline with its golden arches, caves and secret beaches. Nearby is a stunning 18-hole golf course, "Palmares", that overlooks the entire bay.
